The IIT Accessible Trail Project

The IIT Accessible Trail Project seeks to convert the Hinkle Preserve Trail into an ADA/ABA compliant trail.

Features

IIT believes that the natural world is for everyone to experience and we’d like to do our part to make it more accessible to all. That is why we are looking to convert our Hinkle Preserve trail into an ADA/ABA compliant trail! This 0.2 mile loop trail, located on Point Comfort Road, winds through a fern meadow and along the coast of Parker cove with views of Hutchins Island and Cape Rosier. It is the location of the IIT StoryWalk®, a collaboration between Islesboro Islands Trust and the Alice L. Pendleton Library. The accessible trail will be 4 feet wide with very little grade change and surfaced with a layer of firm crushed stone to facilitate ease of use for wheelchairs, strollers, and walkers. The trail will include a wheelchair-accessible picnic table area, as well as a viewing bench overlooking the ocean.

More Informational Opportunities will be coming this Spring and Summer. Follow our Programs, Events & News page to keep up-to-date with IIT happenings.
